Cuba, MO: The came into town, worked their magic, and left without a whole lot of people knowing that they were filming Rt. 66 footage for the Travel Channel that might be seen around the world. On-air personality Henry Cole rode into the Wagon Wheel Motel parking lot on his Saxon motorcycle followed by his two person crew in a white Mustang convertible.
They came to film the Wagon Wheel, but when they heard of that record breaking rocking chair just down Route 66, they had to stop their on their way out of town. Fanning, MO is about 4 1/2 miles west of Cuba on Route 66 or Hwy. ZZ as it is known locally.
The record of the crew’s visits to the Wagon Wheel Motel and the World’s Largest Rocking Chair and the US 66 Outpost Archery Range can be read in a Cuba Free press article.
Here are a few more photos of the shoots. Check your fall TV listings for Henry Coles ride on Route 66.
With the renovations at the Wagon Wheel Motel and the continuing popularity of the big rocker, Route 66 through Cuba, MO seems to have a couple of popular bookends with a dozen Viva Cuba’s murals in the middle.

Jane, you do a great job keeping everyone up to date on what is happening at the Wagon Wheel, and these photos are super! You are a great asset to Cuba!!!!!
Thanks. We have a lot of great attractions/events in Cuba to complement our mural project. Or maybe we complement them, but, nevertheless, it all works together: art, history, and community activities.
Hi Jane – Thanks for the info. We love Cuba and all of attractions the city offers. That’s why we keep coming back!!! Enjoyed photos and comments. The Kruzin Bilecki’s from Illinois 66.
It’s always good to have the Bileckis from Illinois visit.
[…] TIME: The Travel Channel and on-air personality Henry Cole came to Cuba, Mo., last week to shoot Route 66 footage, including at the newly refurbished Wagon Wheel […]
I’m so glad that Henry Cole and crew came back on Route 66. I have a copy of a video of their first trip on Route 66 in which Henry expressed some dissapointment. I’m sure that this was because they misssed out on so many special sights – especially those in Cuba MO.
As for us, we did it twice – and would do it again if the opportunity arose. We have so many memories of the road, towns and above all the people.
