Fanning Farmers Market on Route 66: Vendors Wanted

The Fanning Farmers Market will be a seasonal Route 66 attraction.

After years of people wishing that Cuba, Missouri had a farmers market, their wish is to come true although it will be 4 miles west of Cuba at Fanning, Missouri.  The market will be located on the parking lot of the Fanning Feed Store, next to the Guinness World’s Largest Rocking Chair on Route 66. Vendors are wanted, and they can call Faye Howard at 573-885-2220 or Joe Stubblefield at 573-885-7343 for information.

A recent talk with Faye, who is on the Crawford County Extension Board, provided a few details on the market that grew out of conversations at the extension.

*Setup is free.

*There will be no signed contracts. Vendors are expected to follow state and federal agri-business rules/laws and present a clean/neat display.

*Only locally grown fruits, vegetables, and berries can be sold.

*Baked goods and other locally grown plants can be sold.

*Handcrafts and artwork can be sold but no flea market items.

According to Howard, the market will provide an extra sales outlet for surplus products grown or made locally and give local people access to fresh, wholesome foods grown close to home.

At first, a location on Highway 19 was considered, but then Fanning Feed offered their location, and it was considered close enough to town and also had the Route 66 traffic during the growing season.

In the future, you will be able to get your kicks and your tomatoes on Route 66. I wonder if someone could write a song about that.
