Anyone who uses one of Apple’s mobile products knows that there are apps for just about anything. But can you find an app that features Cuba, Missouri? Now you can.
Kelly Ludwig, a designer and iphone app developer, recently introduced a $3.99 iphone application Road Trip 66. This latest technology dowloads to an iphone, itouch, or ipad.
Ludwig’s latest project combines her loves for design, photography, and Route 66 travel. Ludwig plans to update the app quarterly and get feedback from users to keep the app current. For example, the new owner of Cuba’s Wagon Wheel Motel has renovated the rooms and added a website. The old cafe building is an office and gift shop. Hopefully, the app’s update will soon reflect that.
The app includes Route 66 architecture, roadside attractions, world’s largest and smallest, odd memorials, muffler men, natural atractions, offbeat attractions, unnatural attractions, neon, classic diners, road food, BBQ, and unique lodging as well as museums, artists, and more. In all, there are over 1400 entries including history, Americana, and current businesses. The screen shows push pins in the eight Route 66 states and with a touch of the finger and by scrolling, users can enlarge detail, mark favorites, and gather information.
And how does Cuba, Missouri fare on the new app? According to an email from Kelly Ludwig when asked if Cuba was represented, “Absolutely? There are approximately 10 Cuba, Missouri attractions on the application including the Wagon Wheel Motel, the murals, the World’s Largest Rocking Chair, and more. Love your murals!”
As for any project that takes two years, there are updates that need to be made. The app actually has a instant feedback element that lets the user email in changes, comments, or errors, which will probably help the developer on her updates. The success of the app will depend on how diligent the developer is in updating and using the feedback. The travelers on Route 66 will be the ultimate judges and reviewers of the app.
To see the features of the new app, visit Ludwig’s website. Or visit the apple app store. If you can use the app, you know the way, and we hope it will show travelers the way to Cuba, Missouri “Route 66 Mural City.”
