The AAA Midwest Traveler is a highly regarded travel magazine.
A year ago in July a AAA Midwest Traveler writer Lori Schueler visited Cuba for two days. Viva Cuba members escorted her around town, set up a trip to the Crawford County Fair and Parade, and gave her all the information that we could.
The article appeared in the 2009, July/August editon of the magazine. It is a two-page spread that mentions the highlights of the area and gives some “Before You Go” information. It is great to have coverage from such a highly-regarded travel magazine. It will let a lot of people know about Cuba, Missouri that might not have before.
A few things have changed in a year such as Viva Cuba has a new website address, but the old site will redirect. The Fanning Outpost has not only an outdoor archery range, but also an indoor one with a special computerized range as well. The new Road House 66 Restaurant and Entertainment complex just opened along Route 66 and I-44.
Due to space considerations, the article left out the Crawford County Fair, which will start July 15 this year. The Crawford County History Museum and the Veterans Memorial on Smith Street weren’t listed either. The two-day Cuba Fest the third weekend of October is another yearly event that didn’t make the article.
In other words, just like any dynamic town, things change and grow. And a short article can’t cover everything. The best thing to do is check the Chamber of Commerce website, call, or throw caution to the winds, and drive on down (or up) the road to Cuba, Missouri. The 12 outdoor murals are always open, and we will be glad to see you. Stop at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center at the I-44 overpass, and they will be glad to help you with the latest information about Cuba, Missouri activities and events.

Your list of restaurants does not include Country Kitchen. Been in Cuba almost 8 yrs. Two years ago won award for second highest growth sales for all Country Kitchens in nation. Serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, special promo menus, catering, buffets, banquet room, etc., etc. Great food. Huge mennu. Check it out.
Bruce, The restaurant listed above was just as an addition to Cuba in the last year. Anything listed in the article was just a note by that individual AAA author. As a long-standing restaurant in Cuba, Country Kitchen wasn’t listed although it would have been found on the Chamber list. That said, CK is a full-service restaurant that accepts buses and has room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner meetings. I can personally recommend the Pecan Harvest salad as it is one of the blogger’s favorites. Readers from outside the area can also find mural brochures and other area information at the restaurant. It is conveniently located across from the Visitor Center.

Cuba is fortunate to have good chain and independently owned restaurants.
