When the Truman mural was painted on the side of the Roberts-Judson Lumber Company, it depicted the visit of Harry Truman to Cuba. At the time, the 4-H organization was celebrating its 100th anniversary, so Viva Cuba decided it was important to make the 4-H presence visible in the mural; therefore, the 4-H banners were added to the cattle in the county fair scene.
Crawford County kids and their sponsors and parents have been making a contribution to the community since the organization was founded. The 4-H organization performs many service projects throughout the community, whether it is serving meals before the Race to the Rocker, providing water for the runners, or picking up trash along the roadways. Many of the kids also participate in the race which raises thousands of dollars for the community. Throughout the year, the organization lends a hand–or in some cases feet–wherever needed. Their fair projects also make the Crawford County Fair a more interesting experience for all who attend.
Viva Cuba would like to commend the 4-H kids and the adults who work with them for the contribution that they make to Cuba. We are proud to include the 4-H organization in our mural featuring Missouri’s President Harry Truman.
