Middle school art teacher Melissa Albright designed “Second Time Around” as her entry in Viva Cuba’s Chair-i-table Auction on May 14 at the Route 66 Mural City Party at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Her photo “Spring Awakening” is an extra incentive for a successful bid on the duo.
Melissa spends each day learning about art and teaching and creating art with her middle school students. If her teaching style is as enthusiastic as her bright chair and photo, her students should be motivated.
Melissa used the architecture of the chair to incorporate several colors to make it visually pleasing and to accompany her photograph “Spring Awakening,” which is a bonus offering.
We dub this a “happy chair” looking for a nook in someone’s home. View this chair and photograph at the Highway 19 Peoples Bank before the auction.
In Melissa Albright’s own words:
In my opinion, the most interesting part of art is not the final piece, but the creative process leading up to that final work of art. A new appreciation is gained for an artwork after knowing the planning and time consuming labor the artist put forth to make his or her thoughts and ideas a reality. Within those stages, an artist experiences how unpredictable art can be. Being problem solvers, we artists learn to ‘use our mistakes.’ My chair this year is a good representation of the challenges an artist can face. When the first attempt didn’t go as planned, it was time to refocus and ‘use my mistakes.’ The second time around went much smoother, and I couldn’t be happier with the final piece.
