Kids walking tour of the murals, Cuba, MO

Cuba kids take a summer walking tour of the murals, conducted by Viva Cuba members.

When you throw a rock into water, it causes ripples that move out in increasingly larger circles. That is what Cuba’s murals and other attractions have done. They are known worldwide. While promoting Cuba, I email and talk to tour guides, writers, website owners, videographers, and travelers. Some of them are in the US, but others are internationally based. They know about Cuba and what a neat small town it is. We may take it for granted or see its flaws, but others envy what they see as a town with pride, vision, and community spirit.

A recent email came to Viva Cuba from a Texas woman traveling from Dallas to St. Louis. She stopped to see the murals and took the time to then email Viva Cuba some kind words. She will return to Texas, no doubt with photos and information, about our town.  She will tell the students that she works with about Cuba, the town where “art meets history.” It is good to occasionally look at Cuba through the worlds of an outsider. Here are her words:

Hello!

Just wanted to let you know that my stop in Cuba on my way from Dallas to St. Louis over the Thanksgiving holiday was a complete visual delight.  I am the owner of a small business that works with schools to help them build an art enrichment program called “Art to Go.”  Children from elementary schools in North Texas participateing in “Art to Go” have learned about Diego Rivera’s murals in the past. I know they would be excited to know of how your town has made its history come alive through these colorful and interesting renditions.  Congratulations on such a unique and appealing venue for preserving the past and showcasing talent and community pride!

With each telling about our town and each photo that is shared, the ripples about Cuba’s small community increase. Not only  do the murals and other attractions bring this attention, it is also citizens who are friendly to travelers, business people who welcome them, and the total atmosphere of the town.

Hopefully, we can live up to the reputation that our town has developed and continue to make Cuba a good place to visit and live. The eyes of the world are on us.
