JOG,inc. tells everyone about the second annual event in Cuba, MO.

Viva Cuba hopes racers and their friends and family enjoy the murals and other public art in town.  Mural brochures are in each racer’s goody bag. If you are a local, don’t waste the brochure. Address it and mail it to someone you would like to know about the murals. Or keep it in your car and give it to one of the numerous groups or individuals that we see year round photographing the murals.

As the March 27 race nears, several updates are available. See the latest here.

JOG, inc., the sponsoring organization for the Race to the Rocker is gearing up to stage another successful race. The group’s website stated today:

Race Goal!!! As of today, 291 pople are already registered for the 2010 race–register by March 10th to avoid a higher entry fee. Entry fees go up after March 10th! We have a goal of over 300 racers this year. Help us achieve the goal by registering early!

Getting the race course ready!

JOG, inc needs your help on West Route 66

Broken toys, liquor cans and bottles, wrappers, paper, groceries, clothes, household items: all of these objects littered Route 66 from Cuba to the Fanning US 66 Outpost on a recent drive.  In other words the Race to the Rocker route is not ready for prime time. The race takes place on Saturday, March 27.

Rachelle Austin of JOG,inc., the organization that originated the race, has sent out SOS emails to members, friends, race volunteers, and other organizations. She asked that they join JOG,inc. on Saturday, March 13th at 8:00 am to pick up litter along the race route, which is in dire need of cleanup.

“We really want Cuba to look nice and want racers to enjoy the beauty of Route 66 as they run the Race to the Rocker. Right now, that would be difficult with the amount of trash piles along the highway. We will be cleaning both sides of the road for 4 miles. If we can’t finish on the 13th, we will plan on cleaning on Saturday, March 20th as well,” stated Austin in a recent email.

On March 13, the group will meet at the Britton Funeral Home and start at 8:00 am. MoDOT will provide bags and safety vests. Bring gloves and be ready to help “un-trash the route.” The group asks that drivers along the route be extra-cautious as workers pick up trash.

Almost 300 racers are pre-registered for the race and more are expected. JOG,inc. hopes everyone will help to spiff up town and especially the race route.  Email Rachelle at rachaustin2000@yahoo or call her at 573-881-1581 if you or your organization can help make Cuba a clean scene.

Don’t worry racers. We will be ready.

JOG,inc. and Hayes Shoe Store partner on shoe drive for earthquake victims!

If there’s anything runners have it’s running shoes. After a few months of running, the shoes lose their zoom in racing, but if they are washed, they still look pretty good as street shoes.

With this in mind, Hayes Family Shoe Store and JOG,inc. decided that they would contact the runners pre-registered for the Saturday, March 27 Race to the Rocker about bringing clean, gently used tennis shoes to the race registration so that they could be donated to the recent earthquake victims.  There will be a collection table for the shoes at race registration.  Volunteers will take the shoes and place a rubber band around them for transportation purposes.  It is not necessary to tie them together.

Jeff Bouse of Hayes Family Shoe Store, a soles4 soles collection point, will pick them up and see that the shoes get to the warehouse of the organization so that they can be passed out to earthquake victims.

Soles4Souls is a non-profit shoe charity that distributes shoes to those in need.  The organization’s website (www.soles4souls.org) says that another pair of shoes is distributed every nine seconds and almost eight million pairs of shoes have been distributed to date. According to the organization,  “It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets.” Soles4Souls can use those to make a difference in someone’s life.

If you are a runner, walker, or just someone with a pair of shoes to donate, give them a wash and donate them at the Race to the Rocker registration, which opens at Britton Funeral Home at 7:30 am for the 9:00 am race.  Shoes for people of all ages will be accepted.  You can also donate them at Hayes Shoe Store in Cuba, MO on the corner of Smith and Washington prior to the race.

Pre-registration for the Saturday, March 27 race is nearing 300. If you are still interested in registering for the race, go to www.jog-inc.com for more information or register online at www.GetMeRegistered.com under March Events.
