Steelville’s Meramec Music Theatre bills itself as “Branson without the traffic.” It is a grassroots organization that brings thousands to the small town of Steelville, Missouri for fun, great music, and the sharing of small town values.

Whether it’s individuals or tour groups on buses, the volunteers at the Theatre offer small town hospitality along with a good serving of entertainment. Local talent and acts booked from outside the area have been pleasing audiences for years.
The 2010 season is posted on the Theater’s website. Gospel, country, bluegrass, golden oldies, patriotic shows, and Christmas extravaganzas are all featured. Afternoon matinees and evening shows offer convenient times for everyone, and early bookings are encouraged to meet your needs. Season tickets and a gospel package are also available.

If you are a local group or individual and haven’t enjoyed a Meramec Theatre Show, take the family and support this local resource. If you are a visitor from outside the area, take advantage of this local gem.
After a tour of Cuba, Missouri’s murals, a show at the Meramec Theatre in Steelville, a good meal in one of the area restaurants, a visit to the Guinness World’s Largest Rocking Chair or other area retail stores, visitors will have experienced a full day of “life in the fast lane”—rural style. If your schedule allows, stay over in the area, have an Ozark breakfast, and visit a few more of our attractions.

Rosella Roberts, secretary-treasurer of the theatre board provided the following information.
Meramec Investments, Inc. that does business as Meramec Music Theatre organized in 1995 with the following board members: John Britton, Jim Schmidt, Ike Lovan, Shirley Westerman, Pete Lea, Chester Delcour, and Rosella Roberts.
Many local businesses and interested parties funded the corporation by purchasing stock. The first four seasons were held at the Country Music Theatre owned by Doc Colbert. In 1999, the corporation built a new building at 26 West Highway 8 and shows continued there.
This theatre brings approximately 10,000 annually to Steelville. During the 2009 season as many as 12 groups attended more than one show. Annual Patriotic Shows recognize Veterans. During the past 14 years internationally known Bluegrass Entertainers and Southern Gospel Groups have taken the stage at the Meramec Music Theatre.
Volunteers run the theatre. Our current board of directors includes John Britton-President, Ralph Souders-Vice President, and Rosella Roberts as Secretary-Treasurer.
The Chamber of Commerce uses the theatre for Harvest Festival events and Children’s Christmas pageants and many other community events.
