Leslie Sanazaro Santi is a Cuba girl who started her budding career when she was 11 years old and played the saxophone. But she was always a singer and majored in vocal performance in college.
Although she is classically trained, she also has a background in jazz and other types of music. “I’m in love with songwriters from the 70s including Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Rickie Lee Jones.” She has written arrangements of songs by Cindi Lauper, Kurt Cobain, and Burt Bacharach. The Beatles, The Stones, Otis Redding, Tori Amos, and Fiona Apple are a few more of this eclectic singer/songwriter’s influences. She has a real depth of knowledge of music, which she brings to play when writing her own songs.
Santi is active on the St. Louis music scene, but she has toured the U.S. Canada, Asia, and Europe.
“I’m really excited about the show at home because I haven’t played a show in Cuba since the Sesquicentennial…It’s really great to get to bring what you do home sometimes. I play so often, why should I not play for people I know and love.”
The intimate setting of the Road House should be a good showcase for Sanazaro Santi’s music and performance style. While she sometimes plays with a group, she will be doing a solo show on the keyboard for the hometown crowd. She has two EPs Stars in the Attic and On Your Roof and will feature songs from them, plus playing some of her favorites.
She will play two sets of about an hour each at the Road House starting at 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 12. If you would like to hear a preview, she has some performances on YouTube. More photos and info are available on her website. For a more in-depth information about Santi read this Cuba Free Press article.
Or just show up at Road House 66 on December 12 at 8:00 pm and have a rockin’ good time.
