Viva Cuba’s 25th year of beautification projects is drawing to a close…
October is over, and November begins with the thoughts of the approaching holidays and lists of what to do before the weather changes. Soon another year will be winding down, and we will be writing 2010 on our checks.
Plants need to be prepared for winter, the burning bushes need to be trimmed back , and mural maintenance should be finished before the snows arrive.
Four tour buses are scheduled so far in November. Viva Cuba members must schedule who will narrate the tours and who will direct the bus drivers through the streets of Cuba. Tours must be coordinated with the bus tour directors who have questions that must be answered. This is an aspect of the murals that members really didn’t think about when that first mural was painted in 2001.
Improving the lighting on the murals is an ongoing project and even more important with the shorter days of the season.
Thanksgiving will finds us with much to be grateful for although we are aware the year has been a challenge for many.
December offers holiday activities. The Cuba Chamber of Commerce hosts the Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5 at 5:00. After the parade, Santa will be at the Lion’s Den on Buchanan Street.

The tickets aren’t ready for sale yet, but details are being finalized. Mark your calendars and contact your friends for this holiday event. The committee is working on flyers, tickets, and other details.
The Meramec Music Theatre in Steelville is rehearsing Christmas shows, which will bring many visitors to town. Check their schedule and enjoy some fine Ozark entertainment.
Many area churches, businesses, and organizations are planning special events. Area merchants offer specials and discounts and appreciate your business. The December calendar at the Chamber of Commerce website posts details about area activities.
There is much to do in the last months of 2009 but remember to enjoy your friends and family in the year’s closing months.
