The Fanning Outpost General Store on Rt. 66 has a lot of positive things going for it.
* It has the Guinness Route 66 designation for the World’s Largest Rocking Chair. You don’t see a 42 foot rocker every day.
* The staff at the convenience store, 4-plex archery center, and taxidermy center is friendly,
*The store is clean and well arranged. There is always something new to see. Need a Rt. 66 souvenir? You can get one here.
*You can sit on the front porch and drink a Rt. 66 Root Beer.
*There is a colorful mural on the side of the building.
*The owners Dan and Carolyn Sanazaro are a lot of fun and enjoy visiting with customers.
*It has an interesting historical background.
* How many stores have a cannon on site?
But this post is just because the store looked pretty with its hay and mum arrangement on a recent fall day, and I wanted to share the photo.

A friend & I were in Cuba, MO and nearby environs last week, Sept. 17-19. We spent a night at the Wagon Wheel Motel. What history! When I saw a billboard on Hwy 44 advertising “The World’s Largest Rocker” I immediately thought of Leslie West, the guitarist in the old hard rock band Mountain (“Mississippi Queen”). He’s a big boy. You ought to get him out there for a show on the chair or just below it. The world’s largest rocker with the world’s largest rocker. We visited Fanning & the chair. We each got a Route Beer, drove one mile then turned around, drove back to buy two more! And a Route 66 sweatshirt. The empties came home with me to Sacramento, CA & with my friend to Seattle. The people were so nice. Loved every minute of our trip & I will return.
Be sure to read the new September post on the Wagon Wheel. There aren’t too many of these motor courts left, but the Wagon Wheel seems to be good for a few more years.
We are always glad to hear of people having a good time in Cuba. Spread the word and come again.
