These Cornwall, England ladies take a break during their tour of the murals.

Thousands of visitors stop to see our large outdoor murals each year.  Viva Cuba members spot them wandering along our streets, admiring our murals and taking pictures.  Many of us carry our mural brochures in our cars, and when we see mural-watchers, we offer them information.  The question is then asked, “Where are you from?”

In the two instances yesterday, I can simply say, “from across the pond.”  The first was a group of four ladies posing in front of the Prosperity Corner mural, giggling and acting like a bunch of school girls.  They had flown into Chicago, rented a car, and were traveling Route 66 on their way to LA. They came all the way from Cornwall, England!

Later in the afternoon, I spotted a couple pointing at the Bill Wallis mural, with camera in hand.  After offering them a brochure, they told me they were from Hampshire, England.  Just like our earlier visitors, they had flown into Chicago and were driving Route 66, taking a step back in time and experiencing small-town America.

Gillian and Chris, the couple from Hampshire, were spending the night at the famous Wagon Wheel Motel, making it appropriate to snap their picture in front of the History at the 4-Way (Wallis) mural panel with the Wagon Wheel’s sign.

Today we’ll have more visitors roaming our streets, and we’ll be asking the same question, “Where are you from?”  It’s a great way to connect people and places.
