The power of sisterhood brought together Miller's friends and family to experience this milestone.

Mary Miller is the owner of Java.net Books & Gifts, our local coffee shop/bookstore, and Viva Cuba’s May 8 Chair-i-table auction takes place there. But this is not a post on the auction. It is about Miller’s initiative and courage in her fight against lung cancer. It is about the power of sisterhood to share the burden and a caring business that opened its doors to the group.

Mary Miller’s approach to her battle with cancer is inspiring many through her Facebook pages and her CaringBridge journal as she chronicles her experience. One of the events in this battle is illustrated in her approach to hair loss due to her treatments. In this case, Miller took the initiative, and her story is this week’s Cuba Free Press. Read the article and be inspired. Forward it to women who may be fighting their own battles. The newspaper has more photos.

Since the event, other cancer warriors are booking similar events. Friends of Mary, who couldn’t attend, are “going pink.”  Friend Cristie Kruse is doing a triathalon this weekend in honor of Miller’s fight.

It’s a beautiful thing.
